Temporary like Achilles | 07 Jun 2011 10:00 p.m. PST |
1) Easy to learn 2) Deep gameplay that rewards study 3) Can be played face-to-face, online, PBEM, solo or multiplayer 4) Can be played at any level of intensity – from beer and pretzels through to competitive – without losing its essential character and appeal 5) Has great official and unofficial support, including a DBA-type variant for pick up games 6) While the stronger player will tend to win in a 'championship match' (played over two rounds, once from each side), there's enough luck involved to give everyone a chance 7) You can play in a style that suits you (aggressive, cautious, etc) or vary your style as you see fit 8) You can use the boardgame or play it with figures 9) It's addictive, and your play will improve noticeably with time and effort put in 10) It's great fun 11) Bigredbat did Zama with it There you go, 11 for the price of 5! Cheers, Aaron |

All of temporary Achilles list plus: 1) Can be played in manageable amounts of time; 2) Massive replayability of scenarios (we played Lake Trasimene Epic 7 times last weekend); 3) Epic version can be played multi player or one a side and adds an extra dimension; But most important is Aaron's No 10 – ITS FUN! Easily adapted for tabletop miniatures play with or without hexes. |

Card-based command creates fog of war and limits helicopter god effect with no additional rules needed. No rebasing needed! |

They were play tested by Borg with miniatures. So Altfritz is right. Altfritz, since you like the SYW, I wish you could have played the new SYW system at Hurricon last year and Recon this year. This system is more of a morale game and not just a kill factor game. |

1) Easy to setup and take down. I can be ready to play in less than 10 minutes, compared with the hour or two to set up a miniatures game. 2) Easy to get started. I don't have to scout out miniatures lines, make big purchases, and paint hundreds of figures before I can play a game. 3) Games are quick! We've found that each game averages around 30 minutes or so. We can get in a lot of C&CA games in a session. 4) I always want to play one more game. |

I agree with Bob, Aaron, Rudy and scomac. Overall, it is a game of sophisticated, sparse elegance. Rules like light troops, evasion, flanking, and leaders are simple, but have subtlety in play that few games approach. |

Saves me buying and painting ancients armies and still gives a fun, tense game. Would like to see them expand to medieval – yes, I realize there's a fantasy game based on historical battles, but want the C&CA look. And would like 'biblicals' too. Enjoyed the Napoleonic version. SYW would be great too. |

Well written rules (answers easy to find). Replayability (off the charts!) Easily converted to miniatures. Well supported online (great website). Flexibility with scenerios. Mechanics of game easily transferable to other time periods (mainly Medievals). It's very fun. I play the game by myself and find it enjoyable. Eye candy bonus: With my new HOTZ mat and 100's of 28mm figures, visually it's stunning. |

I've never played C&C Ancients but I have played Memoir'44 which I understand is essentially the same feel. I've played lots of games with my oldest son when he was 9 and 10 years old. There aren't many games out there where a 9 year old and a 38 year old can have a real good time. |
