It's not out until August, but the publisher has very kindly sent one of the advance copies over to me. I couldn't wait to get my grubby mitts on this:

Included are a couple of shots from inside the book, as well as my shiny new copy.

Congratulations Dan; always nice to have a book finally appear in your hands.

Thanks Dan, it looks great.
I pre-ordered the book this week and some Splintered Light minis based on the sample armies from your blog post a while back. Really looking forward to this.

Exciting news!

Hey thanks everyone! Although a big publisher is producing this book, it's still just little old me behind it so it's great to hear about your enthusiasm for the rules. I hope you like it when it publishes… Cheers!

I want to get a copy. August looks a long way away.

Got my copy on pre-order. It will feel a little sad to retire Glutter of Ravens after years of service.

Hobhood418 Jun 2012 3:10 a.m. PST

This has just refreshed my interest in what has always been my favourite period. I've had this pre-ordered from Amazon for ages.

mashrewba18 Jun 2012 5:17 a.m. PST

I don't have Glutter of Ravens -is it still worth getting or does Dux Belloram have all i need?

Danmer18 Jun 2012 7:29 a.m. PST

The two games play differently, so it partly comes down to whether you want just one set of rules for the period or want to try out different ones; Dux Bellorum evolved from Glutter of Ravens, but has ended up as something quite different. Dux Bellorum has less record keeping, which might sway you?

Glutter of Ravens is part rulebook and part sourcebook for the period: lots of info on the armies, equipment, etc. Dux Bellorum is purely a rulebook, but is much better illustrated with photos and Osprey artwork.

Hope this helps?

Thanks Danmer -that's exactly what I wanted to know -sounds like it's worth picking up a copy of Glutter to be going on with.
I'm very excited about Dux Bellorum and I was especially excited to find my Dark age armies all based up on 90x45mm bases will fit right in.
Am I right in thinking that you wrote both books?

Danmer18 Jun 2012 10:57 a.m. PST

I did write both, and yes those 90x45 bases will be just fine! Cheers.

Dave Crowell18 Jun 2012 6:42 p.m. PST

Glutter does involve rather a good bit of record keeping, and I haven't found a quick and easy way to get around it. So, I still use a paper roster sheet for each army.

The sourcebook portion is quite well done, although I hope Dan will forgive me when I say his illustrations are not quite up to Osprey standards. What impressed me most about the sourcebook portion is that much of it is supported with quotes from historical sources, if not period at least the closest we have.

Army morale and élan are more important than maneuver. This is quite a change from the usual wargame.
