Very interesting Mr Knight. The quick playing time is a benefit if you're weaving the battles into a campaign, but it is a bit quick for one offs, I agree. Having now mastered (ha ha ha) the rule basics I will be doing a solo campaign with these rules soon and expect to get thru tha season's battles even quicker than I have done with DBA in the past. Incidentally in spite of my erstwhile doubtful reluctance about the BGG forum, I have now finally logged in anf it seems to be functioning well. What's more Dan Mersey is quick to answer queries and has put out new stuff. The whole game system reminds me alot of Warmaster, tho simpler and more fun. Never really gelled with me Warmaster

I like the idea of an 'attacking' LP counteracting a 'defending' one. However, I've yet to play a game, so I'll play the rules as written to start with: after all, committing half or a third of your points to a single unit each turn is a big commitment. 'Assasination' is a powerful effect if it comes off, but I'd rather have something that is guaranteed, like another unit or two

After playing a few games, I don't think that LPs used in defence is a problem. LPs in defence are not guaranteed, it is the other way around. Let me explain: I found that often when the unit did not receive hits, the defence LP was wasted, and could have been better used in attack, where you always get and extra die roll for it. Often I got to the end of a turn, and there were always unused LP's laying about, so there still is a gambling element in using them defensively. |
