Lovely, lovely pics! I've been reading through the game rules on my nook, but haven't played them. Do they play similar to any other rules out there? The basing scheme with four times the stands reminds me of descriptions of Impetus or DBA in scale, but the allocation of Leadership points is a new twist.

Were they easy for new players to assimilate and play effectively?

cheers

Easy to pick up. An elegant set of rules, particularly if you want a game that lasts about an hour. I have had some issues with them though.

Here is a link to my last blog entry on them – click on the Dux Bellorum label for earlier posts

The rules take very little learning at all. Leadership Point allocation (and use) gives more decision points than does DBA. There are some nuances of troop types (especially 'skirmishers') and tactics (outnumbering doesn't help much in the short term, for example) that mean that players need to learn how to use their troops effectively within the game.

Just echoing the fact that its a fun game for dark age type conflicts. We've played a few games of it to this point, and have even done a basic fantasy(non magic) variant.

Just finished reading the rules last night; very keen to try them out. While I play FoG and DBA, I am thinking that I would like to make these armies out of diorama bases for 15mm figures.

I'm thinking that 60mm would be a good compromise between the 40mm DBx standard and the 80mm quadruple scale in the book. With a 60mm frontage, I'm thinking 40mm deep, to allow for even my mounted figures to be staggerd and look more realistic. The only issue I can see for using 40mm depth instead of 30mm is that the recoil distance of half a base width is easier if they are mounted half as deep as they are wide.

Would 60mm b 40mm deep cause too much trouble?

Cheers

Well done on winning the award as the figures and terrain are stunning, shame I could not see it in person, but greatly appreciate the photos.

I've played with 60*60mm bases quite happily.
