I have about 120 28mm vikings and am working on my Saxon army. I was wondering how DB handles this many miniatures. I'm not looking for a skirmish rule set but larger battles and was thinking about DB. From what I have read it sounds like I'd like it. Just curious about basing too since other than some command stands all the minis are based individually. So I think I can use a movement tray too. In the future if this rule set could handle up to 1066 AD that would be great too. Just want to clarify some things before I buy the rule book. Thanks in advance. |

Basing is by element for Dux Bellorum, I believe Dux Brittanium by Too Fat Lardies is individually based. Are you sure you are talking about Bellorum? If so, each movement tray can be a unit and there should be no issue. |

I used my 15mm 1066 figures to playtest Dux Bellorum, and I use an amended version of the rules for our 15mm Macedonian War project too.
link Dux Bellorum uses unit width as a measurement, so as long as all your units/movement trays are of the same size you can just use them and make measuring sticks in multiples of that size for your movement and shooting (see example of my measuring stick in photo above). |

We've had games with 100 points per side, so if not 100 figures, damned close! We use large units on a frontage of 12cm for 8 or 6 figures with a second rank of the same. Gives a great visual effect too. Dux Bellorum can be adapted to any period fairly easily, we've done Greek and Persian battles (Platea etc.). |

I use Dux Bellorum in 28mm with Shieldwall units of 14 figures on a 12x6 cm base. I measure with a 4-inch "base width". This works fine and battles are around 100 figures a side. I've also played battles of >32 points without issues, just add a couple of extra leadership points. Warbands tend to have 10-12 figures on a more tagged formation, skirmishers 4, light cav 3 and cavalry 5. Skirmishers are 40mm deep and mounted are 80mm deep. I guess Vikings will work though it is a specifically Arthurian set of rules. I haven't played Dux Britaniarum if that is what you were thinking of! Cheers |

Tarleton, care to share how you did Plataea? I have been thinking about how to model hoplites and sparabara! |
