Hi everyone For the last 6 years I have being playing FOGAM and before that DBMM. FOGAM I enjoyed playing regularly at competitions. I have been frustrated recently with the authors disinterest with FOGAM and the lack of clear guidelines on ambiguous rules. Most of my club are now gravitating to FOGR or back to DBMM but currently I'm not interested in either of these. I've bought the pdf rules for Sword and Spear and wonder if anyone is looking to play it within an hours drive of Leeds. It would be nice to see a game or two in progress to see if it takes my fancy. Thanks for any help. Rob |

I have my eye on them too, but quite happy with Impetus at the moment. I may get the PDF, as curiosity will probably get the better of me…. |

Hi Rob: Can't help you as I'm miles away in Canada but I can say they are a very nice set of rules and lots of fun. Our group used to play a lot of DBM and gave FOGAM a try but didn't like it much. As a result, our ancients didn't get out much as we switched to other periods. Since we discovered S&S our ancients are seeing regular workouts again. All the battles, bar one, have been close fought and with reasonable results. The rules are easy to learn but tricky to master. They are also tip top for solo play. Hope you find an opponent. Kent |

Neil Shuck who does the Meeples & Miniatures podcast (or maybe one of his co-hosts) mentioned Sword & Spear & said they really liked them. I don't know where the hosts live in England, but you might try contacting them. |

Pop up to the Glasgow Phoenix and you'll probably find a game going on: it's the first new Ancients/Medieval ruleset that's really taken off for a long time. More constructively, try the forum: link |

Hi Rob As you have a local club who play ancients couldn't you get some of the players there to give it a try with you? |
Robert Taylor | 26 Sep 2014 8:03 a.m. PST |
Thanks guys Martin, pay your £6.00 GBP and I'll pop over and give you a game. advocate, I do get to Glasgow for Schiltron every year but will need to convert them going forward. Mark, A couple in the club are willing to give them a go with me. Rob |

I wouldn't mind having a try of them at some point. New sets of Ancients rules are always of interest but none of the other sets to appear in the last few years have been to my taste. |

Hi Hammy I did send you a copy of the rules when they were in development. I could get over to MAWS one evening to put a game on if there are a few of you there that are interested. Mark |

Hi Mark Could you include me on that invite to MAWS as I regularly pop over there to play the guys. Thanks Rob |

Sorry, I've just seen this. If you meant today, then it's obviously too late. But I could get there on a Sunday afternoon, yes. What do we need to do to arrange it ? Can anyone just turn up there and play ? Robert – yes, of course. Maybe we could get a four player game organised. |

Hi Mike MAWS meet on a Sunday every 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday of the month. If we can agree a Sunday then we can ensure a key holder turns up and there is no problem with you coming. Rob P.S. 19th of this month would be good for me. |

I never knew you had a TARDIS Robert….. ;) Presumably you mean the 19th of October…. I might be able to make the 19th as well. |

Peter Capaldi lent me it as he's too old to be hanging around with attractive young ladies. But yes the 19th of October I meant. :-) Rob |

I should be able to make the 19th October. What time would it be from ? |

Hi all Just an update. Paul Brandon and myself are going to have our first try at the rules next Wednesday. Martin, can you make the 19th? Rob |

I've got to say that's heartening. Mark is working really hard supporting his rules,if it wasn't enough that he seems to be on the forum 24/7 now he's arranging to help new players in their 1st game. Top Marks to that man. |

Hi Rob I actually live in North Leeds and I am getting into ancients wargaming. I'm very interested in the Roman Republic and it's enemies. Unfortunately because I'm just starting out I'm not yet at the stage where I am able to field an army. If you want to note me as a possible future opponent please let me know. I will say that from the reviews that I have read these rules seem attractive and I will certainly be purchasing a copy very shortly. Regards Steve |

Hi Steve I game in Halifax weekly and if you want to get over for a game just let me know. We can usually supply both armies. Rob |

Many thanks to Mark for today's demonstration. I certainly plan on getting a few games in to get a full opinion on the rules. |

Hi Mark Thanks for the demonstration yesterday. There was quite a bit of interest in the rules and I'm having a game Wednesday with someone who wasn't able to make it. Rob |
