I just recently got involved in ancient miniatures, and I've run into a modeling problem. What do you normally use to base 15mm miniatures for Armati, also, should I use the optimal or intro basing schemes.

I highly recommend Litko bases, found in manufacturers directory. They make very nice wooden bases. Use into basing scemes, combining the bases makes it optimal.

"should I use the optimal or intro basing schemes"

In 15mm Armati uses 40mm DBx basing. Optimal or Intro won't change the base size, just how many bases per unit.

The best thing is, you can play Intro games while painting to the Optimum level.

I'll echo jlmartin - paint up and base your intro-level army, then flesh it out by adding additional stands to each unit to bring it up to optimal.

The base depth and width sizes are compatible with about 75% of the ancients rules out there.

I did my 15's on pre-cut metal sheet bases. My 25's are on Renaissance Ink bases. Litko is also a great supplier of bases.

Thank's a lot, is there a website for Litko?

Forget it, lol, I found the site. Thank you all very much.

Hi

Just to be different, I have my 15mm stuff based for Vis Bellica, ie 60mm wide.

Therefore, when playing Armati I play using 25mm Intro scale. Works great, especially if you then field 2-3 armies on each side, which makes for a much more interesting and entertaining game than upgrading to Optimal scale.

Very clever.

Hi

Thanks. I am very pleased with the way this works out actually, because not only do I get to play Vis Bellica with the proper sized bases, Armati and DBA also look much better now - a 60mm wide element with 12 spearmen on it really does look much better than the normal 40mm wide base with 4 figures!
