Hi all

I tned to play ancients/ medeivals and some Napoleonics preffering fast play rule systems, that don't require a large niumer of minis (DBA, Basic Impetus, Polemos Napoleonic).

I was wondering if there is a rule system with army lists similar to DBA or Basic Impetus or Polemos for the conflicts of the 19th century with the era of interests being from 1870 to 1910 (or Franco-Prussian to Balkan Wars). Even if the rules systems are more focused on certain eras 1870-1890 or 1900-1912 that is fine by me.

Any suggestions?

There is an FPW version of Polemos, if you like Polemos.

Phil Barkers 'Horse, Foot and Guns' is DBA like, although less so in its more recent incarnations, and covers 1700 to 1914.

DBN or DB-ACW would work for you. Check the Fanaticus website or search the archives. My 6mm Austrians are based on 40x20mm bases (40x30mm for cavalry), just need to decide if they will fight French or Austrians…

Hordes of the Things! It is bascially DBA but better. I have a Crimean Force which works really well.

I agree RM HOTT is the business -I use 10mm figs on 60mm bases.
My Russian infantry are 30 figs on a 60x40 base as hordes-fantastic!!!

Yes, I forgot to add, you can just use HoTT for most things. We often play 1914 WW1 games using straight HoTT.

HOTT hmmmm

Hmmmm indeedy! DBA for everything! My most fun army is the WW1 Red Baron's Flying Circus. Most weird is the Airfix Astronauts … Am I still speaking out loud?

I loved the Airfix astronauts -a great set.

That sounds good. HOTT then!

I'm just working at it. One (big) base = 1 Company and for a standard game you just handle 2-3 battalions supported by artillery and some cavalry squdrons.
It will have a ppint systemm for balanced games but will include also tactical scenarios.

Look on the Free wargames Rules site, pretty sure the Victorian DBA variant is on there
