Just working on my first Basic Impetus army-The Hittites. Despite my passion and constant plugging the chariot period is destined to always be the under dog/least popular ancients.
However really looking forward to seeing how the army looks in 28mm splendour. Love the diorama basing being heavily influenced by master painter Dave Imrie (Saxon Dog). Total army only needs 10 chariots and around 28 foot!!
Will be posting up full army photo when done.
Have not yet even played the rules. Hope I will not be let down.

I've been thinking about going the other way and doing the period in 6 or 10mm with several chariots per stand.

Try taking the bases and playing a game. I knew it was for me after the first game. there are other games you can play with bases that size, but it's worth being sure before investing the time.

28mm should look great; hopefully you will go regular Impetus – the first supplement has the Chariot era in it.

I look forward to seeing your units as they develop (Cutting Edge?)

What do the folks that don't wish to remount from DBX standards do? Sabot bases or multiple bases with units being a certain number of DBX sized ones?

bruntonboy27 Oct 2011 6:23 a.m. PST

Just push the bases together, usually 2 X 2. No real need to use sabots unless you want to.

ancientsgamer you could do both. I just make units out of the individual stands, my friends prefer to do sabots. My new armies will be based for Impetus though, I really like the look.

Although I have Impetus, for the time being I am building up several armies for Basic Impetus.

What I am doing is working to build up interest again in Ancients Gamine where I live, as well as get some new blood into the local group.

This way, I can provide the initial armies to get started, and all the other players have to do is show up. If they like it, they can start building their own, and once things are under way, I will start adding more units to my own armies to build them up to full Impetus levels.

Thanks for the information. I will keep mine in the DBX style as I can easily go between rules systems this way. FOG is still king in my geographic area (San Antonio/Austin, Texas) but I do hear that some in Houston have picked it up. Being that the basic game is free, I can certainly understand why this is gaining a following.

I've used double-sided carpet tape on Impetus-sized bases as a sabot for the ol' WRG standard bases. Quick, easy, cheap.

Hey ancients gamer, do you live in Austin or San Antonio? If you live in the Austin area, and have the miniatures, I would love to try a game of impetus.

Play on a 3X2 table, use the small scale measurements and user the bases as they are.

Crazycaptain, I am in San Antonio, sorry. I don't know the rules yet. Will be at Millennium though. Will have a flea table up with some friends on Sunday.

Check out Great Hall Games if you haven't already. I would be shocked if someone hasn't tried the rules there. Talk with Rob the owner.
