Cant decide what looks better for 28mm. I feel 60mm deep spear when put together as large unit(10 per base) too empty and deep??
While archers still, look good 60mm with 8 or 9 per base. Thoughts??
50mm deep is easier to store I suppose.

I always think Impetus looks best with (and haters gonna hate) 6mm figures on the bigger bases. Sorry off topic a bit there.

The rules recommend 40 or 60mm depth. Most of the guys I play with go 40 but I use 50mm to give a bit better protection for the figures. For heavy infantry I usually put 12-16 figures on the base depending on the make of the figure and what the unit is. So for instance I use 12 Aventine figures for Roman heavy infantry but 16 Foundry for Macedonian Pike. I should also mention that for deep units you could always have two stands, one 50 mm with 2 ranks and one 30mm with 1 rank. As long as the two stands add up to 80mm you're all right.

For large units now I do 60mm at the front and 40mm for the rear…also if the spear are FPs you might want to look at increasing the number to say 12 which is easily done as your now using half the number of figs for the 40mm rear base.
I found this fixed the problem for me Colin still looked good while solving the excessive depth issue ( especially for units of pike for example ).
I agree the Ts are fine with 8 or 9 per base.

Love your 6mm Muncehead

Hasten to add – not my painting or figures. Pics on the Baccus forum…which appears to be a little broken.

With all respect Muncehead, 6mm can't really hold its own against 28mm.

I use a minimum of 60mm depth for ALL 28mm infantry so as to leave room on the base for retailing. Sometimes deeper depending upon what is being based.

I have some Macedonian pike blocs coming up in the painting que. I intend to likely do 3 ranks in 80mm depth for the front stand, and 60mm for the back units.

That kind of depth TK your talking about will cause you plenty of problems in playing Impetus. A cm here or there is not trouble but your three stand unit will be 20cm deep when the rules are thinking 12cm.

Although a committed 28mm player, I must say those 6mm miniatures are rather splendid!
