I have tried to get on the forum without success and so am hoping someone could help me with this rules question as I am new to them.

My reading of the rules is that Groups cannot become disorganised. So after a second move the Group will take a discipline test – if it fails it cannot make a third move but does not move again.

However – there is a run through example of several game turns on the website and in….

"IMAGE 9. Now let's see in detail the melee.
Red CPs charge the Blue CPs (see frame 1). As the distance is 16U, to do so they perform 2 movement phases. At the end of a second movement Units must take a Discipline Test to see if they ended the move in good order.
They charge as a Group so only one Discipline Test is required. As one of the Unit of the Group is the General, they will pass a test with a 3+ (4 for B level discipline, +1 to die roll for General). The roll is a "5", and they charge in good order."

Why was a test made? Surely as a Group move they could not become disordered?

Many thanks

Nick

I'd suggest that you join the Yahoo group for the rules. It is active and growing.

I find more chance of reply on TMP.

I am very active on the Impetus Forum and I haven't seen your question Nick.

Groups move as one and can either test as a group or test as individual units should they test after making a second move. The advantage of testing as a group when one the units has a commander is that the whole group gets the bonus of the commander. If you test for the second move as individual units only the unit with the commander gets the bonus. The downside is that if the group fails its discipline test every unit in the group is disordered.

Units within groups must make a discipline test after making a second or subsequent move. Groups are a temporary formation and are made up of units. Groups can't be disordered but the units within a group can be. Should any unit in the group become disordered while moving the group cannot make any further movement during that turn and next turn the disordered unit can only be activated as a single unit (essentially breaking up the group.) Hope this helps.

As a follow up upon reflection I was incorrect about one thing. A Group making a second move can take the discipline test by the unit and still get the +1 bonus for each test when an attached general is part of the group.

Thanks for the clarification.

I think you misread my first line – it's not that I have posted on the forum without success rather that I cannot get on the forum at all – activation links sent to me don't work.

Pretty sure if you start moving in a group you can't then start moving off units separately in the second move phase. e.g. second move must also be a group move and tested as a whole….with general +1 if he's attached.

Forum registration problem sounds weird ? I would send off an email to D&P
