I want to use 28mm within a small space (4' x 3') and Basic Impetus is grabbing my interest. It seems sensible to try and reduce the base frontage down from 12cm, but I think the 8cm frontage for 15mm is probably a tad too tight. I have some Perry Wars of Roses cavalry and they look like a nice base could be made at 4 figures wide on a base at 10cm and probably 9 or 10 cm deep to get 6 or 7 knights on it. For those that play the game, can anyone see a reason (other than I have to provide both armies) why that would not work? thanks in advance. |

I reduced my Impetus army base sizes for 28mm in half exactly… 6x4cm for infantry and based 5 figures of MAA and 4 Figures of Long bowmen on each stand. i think they look good! |

Thanks – how does that work out with the mounted knights? would that be 3 to a base? |

Don't see any reason why you could not change base size- I played a couple of games of Basic Impetus using 10 mm figures based for Warmaster (40 mm x 20 mm bases) to see if I liked the rules. Worked fine. |

Why are you changing the frontage Norm? What is the practical issue or concern that you're dealing with and how does reducing the bases by 2cm help? |

As long as both sides are the same it doesn't really matter what size base you choose to use. I have regularly played what some people refer to as "half-scale Impetus" using 28mm figures originally based for DBA. Works fine and can be played on a smaller table quite well. As with any Impetus game number of figures on a base can be whatever you think looks good. John |

Marcus, it is because Basic Impetus says 28mm is for a 6 x 4 and I only have a 4 x 3 at best. I have been playing around with the bases since I posted and on an 8cm frontage but 10cm depth, I can get 6 Armoured wars of Roses Knights and it looks like quite a good grouping. I am guessing that 12cm down to 8cm is probably a worthwhile solution for a 4 x 3 board. |

If you used 40mm wide bases, you could use two bases per unit for your reduced scale and three bases per unit for the standard scale game, if you took your troops to a con and used them in a standard scale game. |
