Is there any reason to form your units into groups in Basic Impetus? I can't find any advantage gained by doing so and there are detrimental effects. |

Because you move and fight with them before you move onto the next combat
if memory serves. So moving a group into combat will get you some advantage in numbers. |

yes. it is a huge advantage to charge as a group. also when being charged it prevents you from having to fight multiple enemies with one unit in most cases. while you are just moving around formation does not really matter, but as it is very hard to form up just before melee (BI movement rules are quite restrictive, more so than DBA and charging is quicker) you are well advised to keep heavy slow units in formation. really makes a big difference. |
