I played my first game of Basic Impetus last night. I have a question about contact between non-parallel opposing bases.

Picture in your mind your one unit facing towards an enemy unit. Your unit is on a 45 degree to that enemy units front right. You charge directly in and your units front makes contact with the front right corner of the enemies base.

What happens next? Do I go into Melee combat against that unit leaving the bases sitting as they are? Does movement end there with no Melee? Do I align my units base with the enemies base like DBA and then fight?

This happened last during the game and we could not find a solution which effectively ended the game with us being confused and not sure how to proceed.

Any advice appreciated.

The situation you explain is shown in a diagram in the "multiple melee" section where unit (A) contacts unit (1)at 45 degrees angle only on the corner. A is supported by unit (B) square on the flank of (1).
In the example shown the melee is performed with (A) as the primary attacker (B only counting as support despite being in the stronger offensive position), so the angle and location of contact is not relevant as long as it is front or front corners. Both units fight to full effect.

The unit is not moved after contact. I think the scale of the game "blurs" the actual positioning and alignment of the figure base in deference to simplifying the gameplay.

I like this approach a lot and am really looking forward to getting a copy of the full Impetus rules to try out. Basic Impetus works really well I think.

The ruleset has quite an active forum where the author is quick to answer questions if you have any more: impetus.forumsland.com

Hope this helps.

Rob, you won't regret it. We played 2 games of BI, then ordered the full set of rules and haven't looked back.
