Hi Everyone: I just downloaded Basic Impetus and really like what I'm reading. In section 2.6 of the basic it states that "The figure of the commander and the his staff are included in the unit to which they are attached
.." Does this mean that The commander and staff are based as a separate command and are placed adjacent to the unit that are attached to? Or do you physically mount the actual model of the commander on the same base that he's attached to? Thanks in advance, Matt |

I believe you can do either. Once attached, the commander does not move from the unit AFAIK. If the unit is eliminated, so is the commander. |

Slight increase in flexibility in the Full Impetus. I mount them separately for aesthetic as well as practical reasons – maybe I want my commander with a different unit. An unattached commander in (Full) Impetus is technically off table so no need to represent except maybe to stand on some hill on your base area. And as acarhj states once attached then no gallivanting around the table, suffers same fate as unit. It might, though not sure, increase the VBU and VD of the unit? Check your basic impetus lists and any errata you find on the website for that answer. |

the only effect of the comander in Bsaic Impetus is that you get +1 on Cohesion Tests with the unit he is in. |

In full Impetus, when you build the army prior to the game you have to nominate which unit the general is with and pay the appropriate points. The options as to which unit the general can be with are very limited and based on historic situations. You can only have a limited number of Generals; CinC plus 1, 2, 3 or 4 depending on the army. If the cinc is attached to a unit all sub generals must also be. If the cinc is not attached you get to choose which sub generals are attached or not. But once attached they are there to stay, you do not get the option to leap the general from unit to unit each turn. Generals not attached to units can be based as dioramas and appear on the table but purely for aesthetic purpose. They have no game effects, and as Brucka says are technically off table in that even if the model is on table, all measurements for command influenced dice rolls etc are taken from the home base edge not the location of the command diorama. |

in BI it is just an "aestheticla" choice, so you can depict it within the Unit or make a small command scenette to be placed near to the Unit it is considered attached. In Impetus is more articulated (as already explained above). |
