Sorry to sound think. Army is 7 to 10 bases. How do you choose as some lsts have more units listed.

THe lists are just points balanced. I don't think teh 7-10 is fixed, just a guide.

colin knight18 Oct 2011 1:46 a.m. PST

I think I have got. Take all the units form each list?

GeoffQRF18 Oct 2011 1:50 a.m. PST

Sorry, not quite sure what it is you are trying to do :-)

If you look at: dadiepiombo.com/vol2e.html you will see they give sample lists for quite a lot of different armies. These are pretty much balanced setups, so for example the Spartans have only 7 units – 6 heavy foot with spear, 1 skirmisher – whereas the Early Achemenid Persians have 11 units, spread across a variety of troop types.

Hidden away here: link is this link: link which (if that worked) you will find the (fantasy) Basic Impetus Points System, enabling you to sort out your own units.

Yep, take all of the units from the list, unless it offers you the choice between different units. In general, the lists are pre-set without huge selection choices. Works pretty well, I think.

Basic impetus has no point. You have fixed list. and osmetime one unit can be swapped for another one. I will use the Seljiuk Turks from the crudsader list as an example. Uou have 10 units. Option A allows you to "Change 1 Turkoman or Askaris/Syrian Unit with" one of daylami. This is the only variation you can have. some list have more option giving you more alternative to swap, lets look at the aurelianic romans. you have two options (1 and 2) allowing you to change one unit of Medium Cavalry or Heavy infantry (1) or one unit of Light Infantry (2).

Think of Basic impetus as DBA with fixed lists and no points.

Sorry – there are no points (unless you are using the fantasy impetus points system) – I meant that the lists have been balanced to be roughly equal/fair.

What the previous commenters have said.

Basic Impetus is a fixed, introductory game that is rather enjoyable by itself. It has allowed me to build small, core armies for different periods and "try them out" as it were.

The really nice thing is that each set of lists is made up of historical opponents, so you can stay within a specific period, or play outside of it against other armies.

The real choices come with the full Impetus rules/ There, you have points available, with lists that include mandatory selections, and options to buy with points left over.

Cheers guys. Very keen to give the rules a go. I really love the idea of small units as they still look good and painting is more of pleasure than hard work.
I also like the as the armiy gets bigger more units are added rather than increasing size. Really siuts my ways and amazed I have looked into this rule set sooner.
