I have two friends who are willing to try Ancient and Dark Age gaming, but only with 10mm figures and free rules. They don't want to invest much or actually nothing at all. One of them has his hands on a large amount Old Glory 10mm stuff that he got at the last convention, so I need input on great looking 10mm ancient if that's possible. I seen some S.Barber figures, Parthian's that don't look to bad, and some Goth's from a different manufacture who's name I can't think of right now. Please I need some help with 10mm figures! |

Connard; I thought that I would never say this, but I'm going too. Connard you have been a great help! "Magister Militum" is the Manufacture that makes the Goths I was looking for! |

My 10mm Carthaginian army was done with 10mm Pendraken minis. The base frontages are all 6cm. link |

If you are interested in ancient and medieval period, try to take into consideration our miniatures. link Inside each code to find all of the miniatures photos taken from different angles. BI is a good regulation, moreover know Lorenzo (the author) and I know very well that he puts the soul in the things he does, but if you want to consider something completely different, then try to look at our rules : PDF link link one of the aims of the rules is to allow players to use the beautiful battlefield without compromising the functionality of the game. Also groped to eliminate all those discussions that are derived from measurements and from the "exact position of the base." Obviously there's more but I would not bored you. Well we now have 6 people willing to give Basic Impetus a try, but only with 10mm figures. Their are a lot of figures out on the market, running from poor to very impressive miniatures, Pendraken being one of the oldest company with a very large range of figures,Tridente Bologna being the most beautiful, but still not a very large range. I went a different direction , buying Copplestone's 10mm Horse people range "Rohan" for the Goths. I asked for help on painting 10mm figures and got some good common senses answers from both M.Copplestone and elsyrsyn, they both pointed me to some very good tutorials on painting and I ran into "Mike's lead pile" website. I now feel that I have a reasonably chance of success painting them now. Will post a picture or two when this happens! |

is 10mm the required scale for Impetus like Warmaster? |
Fireymonkeyboy | 16 Jan 2012 3:10 p.m. PST |
No, Impetus can handle pretty much any scale. 15mm and 28mmare both common, but I've seen good stuff at other scales too – take a look at JET's blog for examples in 6, 10, and 15mm, and 28mm for the Fantasy variant. I suspect the push to 10mm here has to do with cost, thought tbh, Impetus armies aren't that expensive. FMB |

I play Impetus with 25/28mm. Basic Impetus alone is a great game, and a good way to introduce folks to the hobby, as it doesn't require much of a financial investment, especially as the rules are free. The main game adds a lot of chrome, and is easily learned. As I still really like WAB, I've built movement trays for my minis so as to play Impetus with them too, however I'm painting a couple of Basic Impetus armies to use for introductory games, and to show how the bases/units can be done as mini-dioramas, vignettes, etc. respects, |

The base size is what is important in Impetus. How many miniatures you choose to place upon it is up to you. Having said that, the base size used depends upon the scale of the miniatures you wish to use. 20mm to 28mm scale uses a frontage of 120mm per base, with depth depending upon troop type, although that isn't overly important as you can increase depth if needs be to fit the model (IE: chariots, etc) 15mm uses a frontage of 80mm per base, with, again, variable depth. 10mm and smaller it is suggested that you use a 60mm frontage. Now, what is nice about these rules is that, if you had the time and money, you could play Impetus with 10mm miniatures using the 20mm-28mm sized bases, and make them look like real masses of pikes, warbands, etc, and either use the larger scale movement rates, ranges, etc, or the 15mm(smaller) ranges. As long as both sides are using the same bases and stats. it's really up to you. It's a wonderfully flexible system and a really fun game too. You might download the Basic Impetus pdf and give it a read. It's free and has a few pages to it. respects, |
