Hi,

I've just bought a couple of boxes of Strelets Scottish Army of Robert the Bruce 0081 1/72 scale and I am looking for a suitable set of English opposition. I've looked at the Strelets Cavalry of Edward I and they seem to have plenty of cavalry but not many foot troops. I am using the Basic Impetus set of rules and what I would like to know is:

Can I merge the Robert the Bruce set of figures with the Wallace set that Strelets make?

Can I use the 100YW Strelets figures with the Strelets Edward I figures?

If I cannot do either of the above, what are suitable alternatives?

What would be an appropriate number of figures per base (I beleive I have a choice of either 8cm or 12 cm frontage)?

Many thanks

Jeff

Have you taken a look here?

You would want early Crusade style figs. Kettle Helm IIRC. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks,

John

Since both the figs in the Scots sets are basically a-historical fantasy, you can merge them with ease.

The point is to have something for you captures the flavour and gives you a good game, so your HYW are technically a little late for the Wars of Independence but if you look at this pic from Carlisle 1315

picture

It looks like kettle-hats are in.

The Scots climning the ladders don't look much different from other medieval men in their attire

This is from the Wikipedia Bannockburn page, although the pic is from 13 years after Bannockburn, the Wars of In dependence were still on picture

The Strelets Medieval levy look useful also

And the Zvezda medieval peasants would be useful if you were doing Bannockburn and wanted the Small folk

I would say 5 cavalry per ordinary base, and 10 per deep base.

As for infantry it depends on what effect you want to get: I based my Zvezda Vikings 10-12 to a base forming a single irregular line shield wall. Pikes should use more troops (15-20).

Many thanks for the response so far.

Having seen the Basic Impetus list and the suggestions you have made regarding the English force, would I be right in using:

1 box Edward I Cavalry (Heavy Cavalry)

1 box Military Order Warriors (Heavy Infantry) with
1 box Medieval Levy (1) (Heavy Infantry)

1 box Medieval Crossbowmen (Skirmishers and Mercenary crosbowmen)

This just leaves me short of longbowmen, therefore would I be right in using the archer figures from the Henry V set.

For the Scots, I would use

1 box Army Robert the Bruce (Heavy Cavalry and Heavy Infantry)
1 box Medieval Levy 2 (Heavy Infantry)
1 box Scots Army of Wallace (Heavy Infantry)

Again this leaves me short of longbowmen, perhaps I could use Zvezda's English INfantry 100YW?

Many thanks

Jeff

Hurcheon is spot=on. Really you want early HYW figures (Essex/Foundry/whatever) for both sides – no difference between Scottish troops and English ones.
