Had after many, many months of thinking about it, a game of solo Basic Impetus. Of course I would have preferred company but gaming buddies keen on COE(thanks to me) and game when I cant.
The game played quite well and there is lot more to, than apparent in the 9 page free rules. Lots of skill and planning to win battles and seems to me quite historical. So quick to learn rules but a lot of skill and cunning to beat opponents and master finer points.
I used lists I made up to cover Hammurabic Babylonian period City State fighting. Not all painted so battle report with photos to follow at later date.
The main reason for Liking this rule set is small amount of figures required and multi basing. Although armies are small they still look great. You go form army to army without painting hundreds of figures and do periods you may not otherwise do.
With so many great figures coming on the market this is my number one rule set. It can also be used for Fantasy and into musket period without learning new rule sets. This is a big plus for me.

I also am quite a fan of Basic Impetus. I like the full version as well, but with BI I can also build both sides and do solo gaming, or have a "spare" army to introduce someone to the rules.

With the armies as small as they are, it's easy enough to build a number of favorite armies to explore different periods without having to spend a ton of money. Heck, if you use the 1/72 scale plastic stuff, you can put a lot of minis on the table on each stand and still have money left over for beer and snackage. wink
