Apologies if this has been discussed, I couldn't find the thread.

What do people who have played the SAGA Medieval Warfare rules think of them?

I have a question too, does it use the same basing conventions as DBx and Armati? I like the SAGA scenario books that I've seen.

Our group thinks enough of them that we have been running scenarios at the HMGS cons with them. There is enough "chrome" to make them interesting, but they do not bog down. My wife even started playing.
We use the same basing as DBx and Armati, having switched over from these rules. The scenario books are great, as is the support on the Yahoo site.

Check out the SAGA Yahoo site and see what the members have to say.

Try the "Medieval Warfare" demo game at the SAGA website. Terry Gore knows his stuff and writes good rules sets.

I've played Medieval Warfare for several years now, including tournaments at the big HGMS East cons. Much fun! The MW players are great bunch of people to game with.

Thanks to everybody.

Much as I still like CHAINMAIL, part of me does have a yearn to play a game written a bit more recently. Mostly for curiosity, I guess.

"Charge!" is an ancient Simmeryan word meaning,

"Them buggers over there stole our beer!"

The Medieval Warfare rules are well worth their cost and the time needed to learn the set of rules.

I have played with them fairly extensively and have found that they generally yield historically plausible results and that armies and units basically do what they are supposed to do.

They have a number of "modern" innovations such as order chits (as opposed to written orders) such as those found in Johnny Reb. The turn sequence retains the simplicity of IGOUGO, while giving many of the benefits of simultaneous movement.

The only downside I see is the time that it takes to resolve some of the combats. Doing the calculations slows down the game.
