I've seen this set of miniatures rules advertised on the Foundry website. Is it good? How does it compare to WAB? Cheers, --- Wheldrake |

It really is a cleaned up child of WRG 6th and 7th Editions. That tradition features the old concept of fixed units and outcomes based on weapon vs armor. Terry did a good job of "modernizing" with these rules providing simple mechanics and taking quality into account. He also tacked on a command system that works fairly well. My personal vision of ancient warfare has moved on from this setup. I prefer the DBx interpretation with fixed units and troop interactions based on troop type. This doesn't mean that I don't like MW. If you gave me a choice between MW and Warrior (cleaned up WRG 7th Edition) I would pick MW. (This doesn't mean that Warrior isn't a good product). Basically I consider the game old school. If you want that, then I suggest it. If you want new school.. then DBx, Hoplon, etc. In between I would put Armati II. Hope this helps. Joe Collins |

Allen's links have a good mix of pro and con. I like the rules, but don't love the casualty calculation. I'm a math-deficient dunce. I like the order marking system, and the move/range ratios seem to feel right. If someone runs the charts, it runs smoothly (as happens at cons were they put this on). It would take me longer. I've thought about transferring the odds and results to a chart-based calculator, but have not gotten around to it. |
