I have just recieved my delivery of the new Crusader rules about half an hour ago – I'm more excited than a kid at Christmas!

64 pages, full colour, perfect bound, full of photos, examples, more photos and I can almost give them away I got such a good price on the printing (thanks Neil).

Well, I dont have any real friends so I thought I'd just share my excitement with you lot instead :-)

Sounds good- and if the rules look even remotely like the "lite" version you had a while back, they should be very fun indeed.

What rules? For what period?

Rules will be available at Salute – normal price is £7.50 GBP but on the day anyone can have them for £5.00 GBP each. If you see them I think you'll be surprised at the price compared to quality – I know I was!

The rules are my attempt to write something suitable for games from Biblical to Medieval that can be played in 2-3 hours are fun and easy to get the hang of but not simplistic. Matching unhistorical armies is fine, there is a consistent points system and the rules concentrate on units, troop quality and training rather than super formations and characters. In effect an alternative to Warhammer Historical – which I dont like at all. (not turning into WH bashing – I dont care if anyone else likes them or not!)

I'll be popping them up on the catalogue page later today and getting a news story together too.

Even though I'm doing the rules through Crusader its not just my stuff that appears in them – there are three or four other manufacturers' figures in there too and I'd like to get any other companies that want to be part of this to send in suggestions, army lists or whatever (as well as photos of nicely painted units).

I mentioned this a while ago – as an example I dont make Biblical figures and probably never will but there are other companies out there who may be interested in doing a bit of work on putting together some photos and lists to appear in the next publication – the army lists book.

No reason why manufacturers have to compete with each other in this hobby – I think sometimes people lose sight of the fact that we really just sell toy soldiers!

Well, anyway – thats my idea – bring out a set of rules suitable for lots of different ranges, scales and periods. Make them loook nice, sell them at a fair price and welcome anyone else that wants to join in.

Any chance of you putting on a game at the SOA Battle Day?

I have read that the rules are stand based. The rules looks good and I ma interested, but my 28mm stuffi is based for impetus (the italian rules by Lorenzo Sartori, LoSart), my big stands are compatible with these rules?

So how do you handle the differences between the different periods?

How do you account for chariots please?
