First, Yes I have almost every set of rules from Chainmail to WAB and beyond.

Second, I have three sets I play on a regular basis, WAB Ver 1.0, Classical Hack, and Ancient Warfare. But only have two with me here others are in deep storage.

Third, I have Hail Ceasar on my wish list.

Fourth, Crusader has them on sale and I can get the Supplement for AoMPW as well which is my primary ancient period.

Fifth, I need these like a whole in the head.

Sixth, I need These!

So given the above and what few reviews I have found here on TMP are they worth the money ($20.00 USD shipped to the States) and is anyone playing them still?

I have a Gripping Beast Punic Army I am working on and just arranged to get a good start on a Renagade Roman legion of about 120 figures so it would be a good time to try something new.

Recommendations and comments?

I played my first game of HC with crusaders vs muslims last weekend- it was alot of fun and played out as one would hope.

The horse archers drove me to distraction and my knights chased them around ineffectively. When the knights finally slammed into the blocks of enemy infantry they clobbered the infantry.

The orders/blunder system with HC gives a dynamism to the game that is fantastic. Troops usually do what you want them to, but not always.

The OP was asking about "Crusader Ancients" rules.

They are a pretty fun set. $20 USD shipped to the states is a pretty good price since it is over seas.

The rules set will allow you to play Norman/Saxon/Viking type battles right from the book and from a free online supplement. You can bash together a Punic wars battle as there are some sample units from all eras but no army lists for the Punic Wars in the game book.

There is an excellent Punic Wars supplement for the game as well. This I highly recommend. Even if you end up not playing very much, the supplement is a valuable source book that could be used for other games of similar scale and scope.

The product itself is a glossy publication of about 50 pages or so. there are inspirational pictures of miniatures as well as some examples and diagrams that help explain how the game is played.

I played the game solo a couple of times and enjoyed them very much. I have not played in a while. For me, just not much in the way of gaming time.

I'd say, go for it.

You can also get the rules from FRP games, I say this because I just ordered a copy from them last week
