Whats to discuss we attack we kill we destroy.... You lose again... for those who dont know when Greg wrote these rules a long time ago they were modern rules. |

I am not sure exactly what you mean when you say "modern rules". If you mean modern by virtue of having been written in recent times, then yes. If you mean modern rules as in modern warfare then bucko, you are a bit confused. :-) |

I mean old (underline old) that when you wrote these the gladius was a brand new weapon. And your rules set said modern empires. guess who :P |

Just a quick note for those interested, that if you have not tried out Ancient Empires 2nd edition, the rules are available for free download at: link The rules are under development and are undergoing playtesting at this time. Several chapters have recently been updated and modified. The rules use DBx basing, have been converted to metrics, and the web site includes a number of historical scenarios that will only increase in number as I have time to write them up and post them. If you want missile troops that can "shoot", or have a cavalry army and you are tired of seeing them take all afternoon to get into battle, Ancient Empires 2nd edition is for you. Whether your choice is "Barbarian", Macedonian, Indian, Parthian, Roman, or many others, the rules offer a flavor you will not see in other rules sets. The rules uses Grand Tactical movement that utilizes the "Time Telescoping Concept", in order to gear down and take you into Tactical Combat. A point system is included and the official DBM army lists are the officially recognized lists if competition games are your cup of tea. Be a Caesar and cross the Rubicon! |

Greg, My son and I "cut out teeth" so to speak, using your 1st edition Ancient Empires rules years ago. We've tried using WAB but I don't like the handfuls of dice needed to play with rolls for hits, saves, etc, etc. Recently we've begun playing games using the 2nd edition rules from the Yahoo website you listed. I was as impressed with the 2nd edition as I was the first. I really like the way you've speeded up the combat system. Especially compared to WAB, no more handfuls of dice rolling for me, thank you very much! The missile phase is better, too. Makes the Romans a force to be reckoned with! I'd recommend Ancient Empires 2nd edition to anyone out there looking for a new rules system. Thanks for putting your new version on Yahoo. P.S. Let me know the next time you'll be running a weekend demo game in the DFW area as we'd like to attend. Thanks again. |
