John Bull/Patriots!

If you are familiar with the Actions! Module of our Spanish Fury system, you’ll notice a passing resemblance to them in these rules…… OK, they are a direct knock-off. Why not? We did enjoy the Actions! rules and knew while we were making them that we could use the system for just about any era with some period tinkering and flavour. Thus, John Bull was born, a good companion to our Cousin Jonathan battle rules for the War of 1812. Meant to cover actions where hundreds, rather than thousands of men are engaged, these rules are one tier above skirmish, one below battle rules, an oft neglected scale.

Scale
The basic unit of the game is the platoon, which is composed of somewhere between 20-50 men.
John Bull page 2
These rules were written primarily for 15mm figures, but should work for any. Each inch is around 10-15 yards, each turn a few minutes.

Basing
For Basing, we standardize on a 40mm x 15mm rectangle with 2-4 foot figures or 2 horse figures on it. Any similar system will work fine.
