Vis Magica
Vis Magica is a set of fantasy, mass-battle, wargaming rules, based on the popular Vis Bellica rules for wargaming the ancient and medieval periods.
Vis Magica emphasises command and control over everything else. No buckets of dice, no calculations involving nanometres and fractions of degrees: just a simple system that encourages good tactics and bold play. All written in plain English.
That's not to say that it's easy: Vis Magica is one of those systems that you can pick up in minutes, but the subtleties of the game can take many battles to develop. For example, the command system only involves four to six orders, but the Issue Orders phase of the game often has players gnashing their teeth in frustration! Likewise, the magic system is very simple: but choosing when to use your magic points in a turn can make your hair turn grey!
