Captain-General are a set of wargames rules written specifically for wargaming the late 17th and early 18th centuries – the age of the Sun King and Marlborough. The rules originated because of the author’s dissatisfaction with the ability of existing rules to accurately simulate the period. Their design draws heavily on the analysis of battle tactics of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries provided by Brent Nosworthy’s excellent Anatomy of Victory book. In the game, units represent single battalions of foot, regiments of horse or individual batteries of artillery. Although intended primarily for use with 15 mm figures, they can be easily adapted to suit other scales. The rulebook also incorporates 27 different Army Lists.
