A Gathering of Hosts
This is a set of simple rules for playing wargames with toy soldiers depicting ancient warriors. It is not a detailed, simulation of either low level ancient tactics or high level ancient command and command. It is, hopefully, a relaxed game where the gamer can focus on his over all plan, not minor tactical details while getting enough flavour to feel right. For example, light infantry are mobile but fragile while massed infantry are ponderous but robust. Many troop variations have been glossed over to achieve this aim, however, I believe in the Old School philosophy of adapting rules to suit the user so players who like them but want more detail and troop differentiation are encouraged to add more complexity if that’s what they enjoy.

The game assumes that all units have a similar frontage. The exact frontage doesn’t matter but I would recommend adopting either DBx standards or Armati/Basic Impetus standards. My one 25mm figures are now on an 80mm frontage so as to be able to fit into Hexon hexes.
