Lace Wars
These rules have been written to allow players the flexibility to recreate battles on a very small scale such as the battle of Sedgemoor in 1685 to the huge battle of Malplaquet in 1709, Marlborough's largest and last major battle. The rules cover the "horse and musket" period generally and can be used to re-fight any battle before the Napoleonic era.
These rules were designed to create a system that would allows players to re-fight the largest battles that the period could offer within a realistic timeframe. The mechanics of these rules allow players to resolve the actions of multiple units in varied situations with a single roll of the dice and allows for the rapid and detailed resolution of shooting and combat.
Unique features of these rules include pre-battle rules for deployment, scouting, and reinforcements. Orders are issued before the game and the sequence of play alternates between players, with a turn comprising of three steps: carry out orders with each formation, change orders, allocate command points. Shooting plays an important part, but only takes place after a formation charges - Lace Wars uses a unique and innovative method for resolving range - the range at which a formation shoots is determined by how well it does in a charge test.
