Materials	aquarium plants
Don't forget the old standby -- aquarium plants. Stick them on a base, tada you're done. Also, they come in goofy colors like bright pink and blue, for that alien landscape look.

Lately, I bought some plastic cactus at a local craft store. They look like prickly cucumbers. I mounted them to wooden bases and gave them a wash of ink. They tower over the figures but have a nice alien feel. They cost $2-2.50ea., but it only takes 4 or 5 to make a "desert forest."
