Have you thought about Mighty Armies in 25mm? |

No, because I'm thinking to do something more skirmishy for a while. |

Song of Blades & Heroes? EDIT: I forgot to mention Frostgrave and Reaper's Warlord. Yes I know you've heard of both but just a reminder. |

Song of Blades and Heroes was my second choice! The rulebook reads like it would be a great game. Next time… I've decided to start ultra-small and go with Warrior Heroes: Legends. (Thanks to Two Hour Wargames for the review copy!) This will be my first time getting exposed to the THW system on the game table. |

My aging brain needs beer and pretzels style rules with no fiddly-ness. While 2 Hour Wargames seem really simple upon reading, I just cant "like" it. I want to, but it seems more like a chore than fun when playing. My 2 cents. Perhaps I will try them again in the future. I own a bunch of their rules for different eras. My own Dwarf & Orc skirmish blog started with Song of Blades, then moved up in size to Lord of the Rings SBG, then up again to Lion/Dragon Rampant, before leveling off into 80s Warhammer editions. There were some nostalgic but ultimately disappointing forays into Knights & Magick, D&D Battlesystem, & Fantasy Warlord. But I think SoBH/LOTR SBG/Rampants/Oldhammer is a logical progression for simple rules for folks who are growing armies for skirmish before heading out to the mass combat systems. |

I run large fantasy battles using my 2e AD&D campaign world, which I started developing back in 1983. I use 2e BattleSystem rules, published in 1992. They cover everything… They have rules for converting from the RPG, as well as rules for creating your own units, and monster types. It has rules for combat engines and platforms. I've been using the OOP 2e BS rules since 1995. We have a blast with them. I use miniatures from a few different board games, Mage Knight, and many different traditional miniature manufacturers. It's all good, it's all fun. I've played open field battles, as well as sieges, with engines and Towers. Magic is not uber-powerful, but it does make a difference in the game. Undead are a lot of fun, too, as they have no morale checks! They do, however, fall out of command. Non-intelligent undead (Skeletons and Zombies) can be used as land-torpedoes, where you fire and forget (command them to move forward, and they keep going until engaged, or they walk off the tabletop). Fantasy mass battle games are my personal favorite; a very close 2nd is gaming with plastic Army Men (wrote my own rules, back in 1998, d6-based, fast, decisive, and very fun). It combines multiple hobbies, to create the games. Always a blast. Cheers! |

The two hour wargames skirmish rules are a blast! The orcs/orgres remind me more of landsknechte than pirates, but whatever you call them they look great! |
