Nice painting…

I bet in 6 months time we'll be playing a game of 'sniper' trying to kill off the soldiers in the painting in order to get rid of it grin

Interesting to see Germans with a Lewis Gun. Often the case, but seldom seen in pictures.

Company D Miniatures11 Apr 2009 5:25 a.m. PST

Very nice – reminds me of the WW1 paintings in the Imperial war museum by Paul Nash

Colin Hagreen14 Apr 2009 12:25 p.m. PST

Very nice. The colour looks just about perfect to my eye.

If you're looking for criticism, I would say that the number of creases and the sharpness of them makes the clothing, including the greatcoats, look as if they are made of very fine materials. I would have expected them to have softer creases, particularly in areas of less stress such as the extended arm of the guy firing the LMG.

That said, a really nice painting, and I'd be glad to have it grace my wall…

I just want to say its a great painitng but it looks like the guy in a back is wearing a timex… just kidding. I like the painting too.

Nice painting. Hopefully I'll be able to see the actual area of this work. I'm with the PPCLI and will be at the Spring Event.

Beautiful work – very nicely done – too bad you don't offer prints.

Thanks again, everybody! (blush, blush) Jovian1, I tried the print thing, I just didn't have the money to advertize! That being said, it was a long time ago, 1989, before the internet was big! I've been rethinking it lately…

Gorgeous. Fantastic work

Ermintrude02 Jun 2009 1:47 a.m. PST

It looks nice, and I'd be proud to have painted something even half as good. One slight question: the troops look very clean (even their boots) – is this just my preconceptions getting in the way of reality?

Ceterman18 Jun 2009 9:14 a.m. PST

Ermintrude,
You are correct. The troops are to clean, but I paint with a little artistic licensing, just like I paint my figures! In reality, if these troops had been at the front for any length of time, I would be painting with one color… mud.
Thanks for the kind words anyway!

I just wanted to say how much I like the painting. I think it's really evocative. I'd really love to see more of your work – it's very inspiring.

Very good work. The great war is almost as forgotten as Korean Conflict.
