For those of you who, like me, shop at the dollar stores for terrain items, here is an update on miniature Christmas trees.
The Dollar Tree chain is carrying two different ranges of trees this year.
The trees that I've seen in years before are the 'bottle brush' Christmas trees, mounted on wooden bases. The trees are eight inches tall. This year, these come in four varieties: green, green flocked with snow, gold, and silver. These are available individually in packs (usually two per pack, but I haven't seen these in stores yet this year myself), or via online order by the case (20 packs, mixed). If you order online, you can get free delivery if you pick them up at your local store.
The trees that are new to me this year (or maybe I just never noticed them before) are part of the Cobblestone Corners: Winter Village series – two trees on white plastic bases in one pack.
These come in three varieties: green flocked (top left above: bottle brush-style with added green styrofoam bits), white (bottle-brush style (top right), and green flocked (bottom: bottle brush-style).
Above, you can see the trees unpacked, next to a 28mm figure. The trees are 4" and 5" tall, respectively. They'll need to be gently straightened after unpacking.
The plastic bases are slightly smaller than 30mm and 40mm across, respectively.
The bad news is that these are not available by the case. (The 'case' is a complete Winter Village set: 4 plastic buildings, 6 trees, and 17 resin people and accessories.)
So if you want a lot of these for your Eastern Front battles or Escape From the Dark Czar gaming, you'll have to accumulate these store-by-store in your area.
