Wild Creatures: Sea Life

I have wanted to run an undersea AD&D campaign for many a year. I am tempted by all undersea plastic animal figures for such a game. Problem is, it is so radically different, it is challenging to sell it to my players. I've read some fantasy novels about Mermen, and such, as races, and their societies. Problem is, none of my players have ever read such novels to inspire them.

I have other campaign ideas which are equally non-standard, and intriguing, but, again, player buy-in is a tough sell. Oh, well. It is still fun to dream about what could be… Cheers!

We previously looked at the Reptiles set in the Wild Creatures series, so I decided to pick up the Sea Life set.

Sea Life

Once again, we get eight creatures, each in blue and green plastic. The plastic is stiff but has a rubbery feel to it. The bodies are fully molded, not hollowed out.

Sea Life

Representing the world of the deep ocean, we have humpback whales (roughly 70mm in length), dolphins (60mm), and hammerhead sharks (70mm). You could put these on flight stands and use them in underwater games (such as Thunderball from MSD Games) or as flying sci-fi 'air whales' in 6mm. Or slice them up and use them as ocean hazards, emerging from the waves.

Sea Life

Venturing along the coast, we also have crabs (40mm long), shrimp or prawns (50mm), and octopi (60mm). Giant crabs are useful in fantasy or sci-fi. Shrimp not so much… until you mount a laser on their backs! Octopi are highly intelligent, probably evil, and no doubt psychic.

Sea Life

Finally coming ashore, we get sea turtles (40mm long) and seals (50mm). Sea turtles are usually considered benign, but in 15mm these could carry a sea elf commander or fishmen artillery. The seals would be suitable in any 'northern' clime or army.
