With two of my destroyers sunk, and another sailing out-of-control and off the map edge, the battle rages on without me.

Fighting on the left flank

On the left flank, Japanese and Allies trade shots. My destroyer attack has failed to score significant damage - they outmaneuver my torpedoes.

Fighting on the right flank

On the right flank, however, my torpedoes succeed in damaging a number of Allied vessels. The battle is now between the big ships, with the Japanese having the advantage.

(By the way, that's my lone destroyer moving up along the right side of the island - it will get in range of the remaining American ship and inflict minor damage with direct fire. One of my fellow Japanese players protests that the rules shouldn't allow destroyers to inflict damage on battleships...)

That's pretty much how the battle stood when time was called. The umpire declares a Japanese victory. Surprisingly, my lone destroyer is the only unscathed ship left on the table!

The game was lots of fun, and let us roll buckets of dice while maneuvering big and little ships in harm's way - what more can you ask?

The ships used were 1:1200 scale models from the Jackson Gamers collection.
