Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian writes:

After I made fifteen wargaming theme songs (now sixteen!), I thought – hey, what about a TMP theme song?

I'm using the Sonauto music AI, and the way it works is that you tell it the type of song you want, then you can also tell it what type of lyrics you want, and it will write lyrics for you. (Yes, it's kind of strange you have to tell it twice.)

Important note: Save the lyric instructions in a text editor before you let the AI generate the lyrics, because it will overwrite your instructions with the output. This is important if the first AI version is bad and you want to let it take another crack at it.

What I find works best is to then take the AI-generated lyrics, copy-and-paste them into a text editor, and 'improve' them until you're happy with the result. Sometimes the AI will give you useful results, but other times you will need to massage the lyrics into what you had in mind. But at least the AI gives you a lyric structure and rhyming pattern to work with.

The edited lyrics are:

Sometimes you wanna just unplug
From all the world and its tough love
You’re looking for a friendly face
A perfect, digital, happy place.

(Chorus)
T M P!
Where they all know your member name
And when you return, it’s always the same
You're not walking solo and feeling blue
Your online pals are waiting for you!
Rattle the dice, let the good times roll
It’s the haven for your gaming soul.

You’ve got your keyboard, the net is on
Another forum post before the dawn!
With laughter shared and stories spun
Until the very last victory is won.

(Chorus)
T M P!
Where everyone knows your member name
And when you return, it’s always the same
You're not walking solo and feeling blue
Your online pals are waiting for you!
Rattle the dice, let the good times roll
It’s the haven for your gaming soul.

The parenthetical comments ('Chorus') are actually in the output, and the AI understands what they mean.

At this point, you can finalize the song instructions, with the lyrics, and hit the button to get your song. It's a bit of a crapshoot – it's hard to predict how well the AI can handle your lyrics until you try, and you're never sure exactly how it will interpret your song request. Sometimes the AI will screw up and sing nonsense syllables. And there's no way to edit the result. You can't say "keep the tune, change this lyric." You just keep hitting the button until you get something you like.

TMP Theme Song #1

Sonauto input

My directions to the AI were: "In the style of Rocky Mountain High by John Denver."

I didn't expect it to sound so much like John Denver! Apparently, someone could generate an entire pseudo-John-Denver album with AI!

It's a bit schmaltzy, but the AI nailed the lyrics, every word could be understood.

TMP Theme Song #2

This time, I gave some general song instructions to the AI, and let it 'expand' on them. Then I added 'male vocalist'. The results were:

Cozy neighborhood bar vibe, friendly chatter in the background, soft clinking of glasses, mellow piano chords, warm saxophone melodies, smooth upright bass groove, nostalgic yet inviting atmosphere, laid-back tempo, intimate and familiar, clear and balanced mix, like a comforting embrace from an old friend. Male vocalist.

It left out the "TMP!" part. grin

Otherwise, I like it!

TMP Theme Song #3

I left the settings the same, and hit the button again.

Kind of somber. I'll add "happy" to the song instructions from now on.

TMP Theme Song #4

I asked for: "In the style of Dream a Little Dream of Me by Moma Cass. Happy tune."

Er, I spelled it wrong. The song is not even close to what I wanted, but it's rather cool.

Note that the AI had trouble on the first chorus with 'member name' ('a member name'), stumbled on 'not walking solo' ('not walking pallin?'), and changed 'haven for your gaming soul' to 'haven of the game for you'.

Coming around to the second chorus, 'And when you return' is 'and no ponchoy' (?), 'solo' is still 'pallen', skips the next two lines, and gets the last line wrong again.

And then it riffs bits and pieces as an outro.

Shame about the lyric problems, but the tune is good if you enjoy that style.

I'll keep posting new website theme songs every once in a while, until I get bored with it. If you have requests, please PM me. grin
