Laszlo Jakusovszky - Blending

Laszlo was amazing to watch. (Later, I'll include pictures of his entry in the Masters division of the painting contest.) During the class he taught, he'd say "I'm going to do it this way and pass it around so you can see it...." And almost before the words were out of his mouth, he had the painting finished.

Laszlo spent a lot of time talking about light sources and blending. His process was different from Sue's, in that he used layers along the folds of the cloak, and then went back and used a glaze over it so that the transitions were smooth.

What was interesting were the colors that he used on the cloak. Imagine you are looking at the back of the figure. The colors ran from a yellow on the right, to a red on the left, with a smooth transition between the colors and highlighting of the raised parts of the cloak.

The painting went quickly, because between each application of paint, he used a travel hair dryer to dry the paint so he could work on it sooner.

I did not have my notepad for this class, and so these brief notes (unfortunately) have been pulled from my memory. I intend on signing up for this again next year!
