sargonII, traveling in the Middle East, writes:

The Jerusalem Brigade was attacking to the south of the Old City, and the 10th Brigade was attacking to the left of the Parratroop Brigade. The objective of the 10th Brigade was to link up with Mount Scopus, and take positions to repel an expected attack by Jordanian Patton tanks. the 10th Brigade was equiped mostly with Sherman M-4A1 76MM and M-50 tanks. Some Centurian tanks were also given to the Brigade; however, these tanks were driven by inexperienced drivers, and there was great difficulty in traversing the hilly, rocky terrain.

The Paratroop Brigade attacked the Mandlebaum Gate at the same time as the attack upon Ammunition Hill. The Israelis suffered many casualties on the attack against Ammunition Hill, and a good proportion of the officers were killed or wounded. Great bravery was shown by both sides during this battle, and the positions were only taken after many casualties and the appearence of two 10th Brigade tanks. The tanks were unable to lower their guns enough to fire at the positions. The Jordanians retreated with the appearence of these tanks. The last position to be taken was a large bunker, that was blown up using explosives (after the failure of grenades and bazookas).
