All of Brent's models are first created as paper drawings, from which templates are made to use when cutting out the sculpey masters.

Above, a paper template - in this case, the back end of Brent's pirate ship model - is placed on the sheet of sculpy clay. Below, the shape is cut out using a hobby knife.
