Aberrant Games' hard sci-fi game, Rezolution, was launched in June of 2005 and has been growing rapidly since then. Simon MacKenzie, one of the owners of Aberrant, is justifiably proud of his game - and especially proud of its latest release, Shadow War. "It was just released and we've sold out in less than a month," he says. The set contains 12 unique metal miniatures, complete quickstart rules, dice, and a tape measure for $50 USD. The forces work out to two 200-point squads, plus two characters each side.
"We've introduced a lot of new players to the game this weekend," Simon continues. "We've tried to make Shadow War easy for for entry-level gamers, while having it still appeal to advanced gamers.
"Our ninjas and Peacekeepers were our big breakthrough. We're into our 2nd and 3rd castings respectively." Because of this, Aberrant has tripled its output of product. New miniatures are due out at the beginning of the year, with the Greymalkin - previewed on TMP several weeks ago - due out in February. Gale Force 9 has also recently produced templates for use with the game.
Aberrant also announced their 5th full faction, the Vatacina, which is due out in March at the convention. This faction portrays the forces of the Vatican, which has reinvented itself within the game world as lawyers and adjuticators. "But," as Simon pointed out, "like all the other factions, they have their own agenda." Their powers will tend largely towards the psychic, but they, too, have fighting machines of their own should things get physical.
The design work for the Vatacina was done by a Malaysian artist, and the result is much different than the Gothic appearance ascribed to Church forces in other sci-fi games. Several figures were on display at their booth, and they were polite enough to share two of them with TMP before the official announcement (where the other figures will be revealed).
