First Look: Battlefront's 1:100 Panther Tank Platoon

15mm and 28mm Fanatik writes:

The third sprue includes parts for the Jagdpanther. Much like PSC kits, BF includes more parts than you need for maximum flexibility and choice.

Let's open the box on Battlefront's Panther Tank Platoon.

Panther Tank Platoon box

The box lists the contents as five "Panther (7.5cm)" tanks, four Unit Cards, and a decal sheet. The scale, listed on the back cover in small red print, is 1:100.

Panther Tank Platoon box contents

Inside the thin cardboard box are 15 plastic sprues of three types, a ziploc bag of tank commander figures, a plastic bag with cards and the decal sheet, and a wad of bubble wrap on one end.

Panther Tank hull sprue

The main sprue provides the major parts for hull and turret, cast in what I presume is 'German yellow' plastic.

Panther Tank tracks sprue

A small, separate sprue provides the track sections.

Panther Tank miscellaneous sprue

The third small sprue provides miscellaneous parts, including two gun barrels, exhausts, track links, etc. Curiously, the box back-cover assembly instructions fail to explain the optional parts, and shows one gun barrel in the instructions and a different gun barrel in the built-up model photo next to the instructions.

Tank commanders

Also in the box, though not mentioned on the box's content list or in the assembly instructions, is the usual sprue of German tank commander figures.

Cards and decal sheet

The decal sheet (in its own ziploc bag) provides tactical numbers 400 through 425, and crosses, some of which are marked 'left-front' and 'right-front'. The four cards are two identical Panther Tank Platoon cards, one Panther Tank Company HQ card, and a double-sized, folded Force Card.

The kit seems straightforward to build, and my only concern at this point is the hull machinegun part which looks way delicate to cut off the sprue (which is perhaps why they give you an extra one!). The unexplained parts are presumably for other Panther models, just be sure to use the right parts for this model of Panther.
