We have time for a quick glimpse of the Big Black River, site of the battle that "sealed Vicksburg’s fate: the Confederate force was bottled up at Vicksburg."
This is the view from the highway bridge - the Civil War-era railroad bridge was located a short distance away. reeves lk is eager to charge across the fields to find remnants of the bridge... but my energy is flagging. (All I had for lunch was airline peanuts... it's late, I need dinner!)
Fortunately, Vicksburg is only minutes away now. reeves lk kindly treats me to a Route 66 Combo at Bumpers (he says the girl will roller-skate to our car with our order, but alas, she merely walks...). The meal is delicious...
Then it's on to the Battlefield Inn, site of tomorrow's convention, where the show coordinators gather to discuss strategy (the game tables were supposed to be delivered tonight, but are a no-show - something must be improvised for Friday morning!). These are old friends, many of whom haven't seen each other since before Hurricane Katrina, so many stories are about to be told...
As the hour turns late, I eventually toddle off to my room. The convention has kindly put me up in the Reverend Woodbine Room - with refrigerator, microwave, and a nice view of the pool (the convention area is to the right).
