Union counter-attack
After giving ground to a bold Rebel charge, Union troops counter-attack, sweeping aside the intruders and pushing towards the Confederate line.

However, the Union attack soon stalled...

Little fighting had yet occurred on the Union right flank, as they maneuvered for position and tried to stay out of range of the Confederate guns.

Rebels hold a critical bridge
Rebel infantry and a battery of guns hold the critical bridge on the Union right flank.

On the Union left, infantry and artillery have moved onto the low hill that dominates the flank. The Rebels have foolishly deployed their cavalry in the front ranks. They soon take a number of casualties and are forced to retreat.
