Who asked this joker writes:

Good to see the Bat Rep. Thanks much for that. It has been a long time since I played FR. Brings back some fond memories.

There he sat - doc mcb - ready to game against anyone who would sit down at the demo table. How could I resist?

Doc Mcb at the demo table

doc mcb gave me a quick overview of the rules (we were using Fantasy Rules! 3rd edition, with doc mcb's simplified version of the magic system), then gave me six army cards and asked me to pick any two. I thought about going for strategy, but ended up going for aesthetics - I picked the Amazons because they looked great and had giant jungle cats, and the Leonines because they looked cool, and had some cat/centaur type troops. (I'm sure doc mcb can provide details on the armies for those who want them - all I remember is chicks and cats!)

Opposing me were bearmen and some kind of nature-oriented army (including a dragon!).

Table center

My strategy was pretty simple. I put some of the Amazons - some archers, a wizard, and some infantry - in the center of my side of the board, and told them to hold their position. (I formed the archers up in column, and told them to advance to take the hill to their front, then hold their position.)

Table right

On my right flank - separated from the central area by some woods and a river - I put some fast, mobile troops (cavalry and chariots). I ordered them to delay the enemy with aggressive delaying tactics.

Table left

And on my left flank I deployed my leonine forces, and ordered them to advance sharply and win the battle for me!
