Gen Con So Cal 2005 - Saturday

Did they? It seemed pretty obvious to me, from the outset.>>

I seem to recall the words "Same world, whole new game" and "completely new mechanics" or similar being used at one point. As recently as two weeks ago, the number of questions I saw here and elsewhere from people who were actually looking at promotional materials was astounding. Questions I couldn't answer for myself until No Quarter #3 arrived.

Hearing it straight from the designer in a Q&A format two months ago would certainly have taken care of the problem for those who read it, but I have news for you: the Net does not deliver information to even a decent minority of gamers. Big flashy marketing materials and (oft inaccurate) word of mouth cover the rest. Without the context of that forum response, PPs marketing of Hordes up to NQ#3 was too dodgey to provide that compatibility answer.

Heroscape: Road to the Forgotten Forest

It's a terrain expansion for Heroscape, but will non-Heroscape gamers be attracted by the trees?

One of the more prominent booths in the dealer area is that of Privateer Press.

Their line of "steam high fantasy" figures and games continues to expand at an aggressive pace. At GenCon, they pre-released their Hordes range - which is fully compatible with their Warmachine wargaming line and their Iron Kingdoms RPG setting. While Warmachine focuses on the mechano-magical warjacks and their warlock controllers, Hordes focuses on the warbeasts and warlords. Due out in April, the full range includes a rulebook and alternative figure boosters.

The four Hordes boxed sets

Four Hordes factions were released: Trollbloods, Legion of Everblight, Circle Orboros and Skorne. A variable number of figures come in each boxed set. Each has one warlock figure. The Trollbloods box contains three trolls (naturally enough), while there are a Carnivia and four Shredders in the Legion box. A Warp Wolf and two Argus figures come in the Circle Orboros set, with the Skorne set containing a Titan and two Cyclops.

Matt Wilson, the head of Privateer, says: "We plan to support these figures with separate tournaments from our Warmachine tourneys. However, there will be some crossover tournaments with an 'anything goes' format."
