I mentioned to a family member that I was looking for a 'toy bug' larger than what I had for a wargaming project, and I was pointed in the direction of the Ashland Halloween wall decor collection at Michael's (a U.S. craft store).
I found these on a vertical display near the front center of the store, with other Halloween-themed items. They are tied by wire to a 3" x 7" clear plastic card, along with a paper label. Usually there are two models per card, just under 3" long, but some models are 6" and mounted front-and-back on the card. The ones I was interested in are described as "gold brushed black," but there are others covered in sparkles. Examples include insects, bats, spiders and snakes. They are priced at $4.99 USD, but on sale for $1.99 USD.
As I mentioned, I was seeking a 'larger' insect, so I picked up the Black Lucanus/Scarabee Noir. Not bad at a dollar apiece.
The bug is made from a stiff plastic, such that the body is stiff but the legs and other protrusions are bendable. It measures roughly 60mm long, and 65mm wide from leg to leg.
The underside is hollow.
