Married since January, Thye said his new wife Leslie enjoyed the event, although she doesn't play Axis and Allies. They went on a tour of the museum center organized by Smorey's father, a maintenance engineer at the museum.
"His father does a great job explaining the effort and detail that goes into each model," Thye said. "It was really amazing."
About 35 players from across Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Michigan attended the event. Although attendance was down slightly from last year, Smorey said he still considers it a success.
"I believe that anytime you can get a group of people together to play a group of games one loves, it is going to be successful, and this year is no different," he said.
Smorey has judged and hosted Axis and Allies tournaments for more than 14 years.
He said he looks forward to next year when the Anniversary Edition of Axis and Allies will be available. Smorey also said he hopes to have Larry Harris, creator of Axis and Allies, attend in the future.
Attendees were also able to buy tickets to participate in a door-prize drawing - prizes included t-shirts, booster kits and a copy of Axis and Allies signed by Larry Harris.
