For 48 continuous hours, this battle raged between Norman/Saxon barons over a hill fort. Players signed up for four-hour turns, and could play as often as they wanted to. Mike Brown (umpire and designer, shown above at center) has used his Tactical Medieval Warfare rules at GenCon since 1985. The rules used were first written in 1981 by three designers in St. Louis for games at their shop (Epic Gallery), and at conventions so that they could use a standard set year-to-year. Tactical Medieval Warfare is now under revision to add fantasy and naval sections - look for a finished set next year at GenCon.
