The Austrian commander concludes that the only way to deal with the skirmishers is to drive them away with the bayonet, and orders a general advance by the right wing. In the picture, the Austrians (in white) form a line at the bottom, while the French are clumped together in the middle and top. The cotton marks where firing has been most furious.
