The situation was this: The Terran (earth) Fleet was arriving at an alien mining base (belonging to a lizard-like race) to sign a peace treaty. A cat-like race hostile to the Terrans had the mission of intercepting and destroying the Terran fleet before peace could be concluded.

An enemy player announces his fire.

Each side had a wide variety of ships, from foot-long battleships to quarter-inch fighters. I was one of four players on the cat-alien side, and our forces consisted of two battleship-class starships, plus two strike forces (each consisting of a frigate [about 2" long] and a pair of fighters). I was assigned a character sheet with my stats and a personality summary ("cautious"), and command of one of the strike forces.

The difference between the fleets was that my side had faster ships with no maneuvering restrictions, armed with missiles but little armor. The Terran ships shot energy weapons and had high armor, but were less maneuverable.

I saw no future for my little ships in a battle involving behemoths on both sides, unless I could take cover around the large asteroid base at the center of the playing field. Consequently, my ships entered play heading for the main asteroid at top speed, and at minimum altitude (to screen me from the majority of the Terran Fleet, at medium-to-high altitude).
